Fundraiser Saturday for Patrick Co. Marine

Posted: Updated:
PATRICK COUNTY, VA -

There's a fundraiser Saturday to raise money for Corporal J.B. Kerns, a triple amputee. The Marine lost both legs and an arm while serving in Afghanistan.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is building him a smart-home in Patrick County and builds houses for disabled veterans and first responders all over the country.

John Hodge, with the foundation says they expect to break ground in the next four to six weeks. Hodge says the house is almost paid for, the design almost done and now they're looking for a contractor. Hodge says finding a contractor has been difficult because it's in a rural part of the state and will include a lot of electronics that can be controlled from an iPad.

A group has organized a ride from the Martinsville National Guard Armory (315 Commonwealth Boulevard in Martinsville) to Dan River Park in Ararat.

Cars, trucks and bikes are welcome. You can register Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.  The ride starts at 1 p.m.  It's $15 per vehicle.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and band.
