ROANOKE, VA -

Roanoke City Police say a woman is hurt, after an SUV crashed into a home in southeast this (Thursday) morning.

According to police department spokeswoman Aisha Johnson, the call about the crash came in to the E-911 center at 6:00 a.m.

When officers arrived at the house in the 800 block of Jamison Avenue, then found an SUV had crashed into the front porch of the home, and had knocked off some pylons holding up a roof over the porch.

Investigators believe the SUV's driver, 50-year-old Douglas Lipscomb Wade, of Hardy, lost control while driving west on Jamison, ran off the road, hit three chain link fences, then crashed the SUV into the home.

EMTs took Wade to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  Officers tell us Wade did not have passengers in the SUV.

Police have since charged Wade with failure to maintain proper control.

Investigators say 34-year-old Brenda Ann Tolley, of Roanoke, was inside the home at the time the crash took place, and the SUV landed inches away from where she was sleeping.  EMTs took her to Roanoke Memorial Hospital as well.

Police did not release a condition for either Wade or Tolley, nor did investigators say why they believe Wade lost control of the SUV.

The investigation is ongoing.
