Rocky Mount Police, ATF net 17 in 'Direct Impact' operation

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -

An effort to curb future gun violence netted seventeen different arrests in Rocky Mount.

Operation Direct Impact, a partnership between the Rocky Mount Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, targeted known felons over the past year in the Rocky Mount area.
     
All 17 of the arrested offenders have previously been convicted of felony charges.

The current federal indictments against these individuals all involve the possession and or selling of illegal firearms.
     
Most of these individuals were arrested on May 7. However, some were already in state custody.
     
One of the subjects was taken into custody in Maryland.
     
The suspects age in range from 23 to 59 years old.

The Rocky Mount Police Department said they will continue these operations with the assistance of the ATF to ensure the safest possible environment for their citizens.
