Mothers of May finalist Dawn Toole helping feed children on weekends

Posted: Updated:

Thursday's Mothers of May finalist is a kindergarten teacher who is also making a difference for students outside the classroom on the weekends.

Two years ago, Dawn Toole created a weekend backpack program with her church called Mercy Nuggets.

The program hands out about 400 bags of food a month to two different Henry County schools and to children in the church family.

Just the responses each week from students is reassuring this teacher and mother her efforts are appreciated and her own daughter is taking note.

"When they look forward to food instead of things we take for granted then you really know that you're meeting a need," explained Dawn.

"She's impacted a lot of lives, a lot and that's basically the reason why I did this," Madison said, Dawn's daughter.

The grand prize winner for our Mothers of May contest gets a makeover with the works donated by Zee's Salon.

The makeover includes the winning mother's choice of hair color, style, a manicure, pedicure and whatever else the lucky woman thinks she needs.

Metro has also given a $50 gift card and Southern States has given an English rose bush.
