Roanoke Valley projects recommended for $28 million federal grant

Posted: Updated:
DOWNTOWN ROANOKE -

The Roanoke Valley greenways could be getting more than five million dollars within the next year to help complete the seven miles still needed to connect 21 miles of trails.

That's the recommendation going before the Roanoke Valley Metropolitan Planning organization in a couple weeks. A committee has been going through applications for how to spend $28-million from the federal government over the next six years.

There are several other projects they will recommend too-- including replacing a Smart Way bus, redesigning and fixing the exit 140 park and ride and several studies on transportation.

The Metropolitan Planning organization will vote later this month on the recommendations.
