Plans for a permanent children's museum in Blacksburg are almost complete.
The Blacksburg Children's Museum is a non-profit and emerging member of the Association of Children's Museums. Volunteers have been working for years to make it happen and have set up traveling events across the New River Valley. It's in negotiations with the First & Main Shopping Center to open a permanent museum within the district, said board member Janine Kniola.
The museum will offer a sneak peek at what that permanent museum would offer this weekend. It's setting up in the former Steger Creek location next door to Talbots. Board members say the children's museum is needed in Blacksburg and will serve to bridge arts and technology for children and their families. "Early childhood education is essential," explained Kniola. "It enhances a child's curiosity and creativity, all skills that we want to nurture and there's really tremendous long term benefits."
The sneak peak inside is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m..
