ROCKY MOUNT, VA -

Update 12:33:

Shotgun is doing much better.

A week ago he could hardly stand on his own, but now he can stand and walk around.

Workers at the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue have been feeding him endless amounts of hay. He also has been drinking Gatorade and protein shakes.  Rescue leaders say they are so grateful for the donations.

Original Post:

A Rocky Mount woman has charged with one count of animal cruelty, and 4 counts of failing to provide medical treatment.

The charges were filed against Lacinda St. Clair of Rocky Mount, after Franklin County Animal Control officers rescued a severely malnourished young horse last week.

WSLS has already covered the story of the colt, "Shotgun," who is now being cared for at the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue.

In addition to Shotgun, investigators say St. Clair also provided inadequate care to four adult horses.

Donations are being accepted at the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue, to help with Shotgun's recovery.
