BEDFORD COUNTY, VA -

A Montvale man faces multiple charges, after the Bedford County Sheriff's Office says he led officers on a high speed police chase on Route 460 Thursday night.

According to Major Ricky Gardner, a deputy tried to pull over a man on a motorcycle traveling east on Route 460 in Montvale around 9:30 p.m., after clocking the rider at 79 miles per hour.

However, the deputy saw the rider look back at him, then speed off.

Maj. Gardner says a 15 mile long chase began, and reached speeds up to 120 MPH.

The chase ended when the motorcycle slowed at the intersection of Route 460 and Wheatland Road, then tried to turn left in the median, and go west.  The deputy's car hit the back of the motorcycle, and the rider fell off.

The deputy saw the rider get up, then run off.  The deputy eventually caught and arrested 28-year-old Tyler Songer, of Montvale.

Songer faces charges of:

  • Felony elude a police officer
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving without a license
  • Operate an uninsured vehicle
  • Failure to inspect vehicle

Songer is being held at the Bedford County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

Virginia State Police are investigating the chase.
