BLACKSBURG, VA -

A Blacksburg entrepreneur is getting some national recognition for an app he created.

Bob Summers won the 'Windows Startup Challenge' against 200 other companies for his app KinectHealth.

"Many moms told me that if their kids are sick or if they are traveling, they still want to connect with their trainer and there was no way to do that," creator of KinectHealth, Bob Summers says. "I thought eureka! KinecthHealth can solve that problem,"

Bob Summers shows us you don't need to be at the gym to sweat. He created the app KinectHealth, which let's you choose from work outs like zumba or yoga.

You can then can work out with your own personal trainer, some of which are from Blacksburg, New York, and LA.

"We built something that competed against those out of London, out of Sol Korea, We beat them out and it's happening here in Blacksburg,"Summer says.

Summers used computer vision technology to build KinectHealth. The web cam on your computer or tablet helps keep track of your activity level.

You can see it working with an orange glow highlighted around your body.

You can then tell if your calm, active or hyper, how many calories you've burned, and how long you've been working out.

"I'm very excited and we've already we put it 1,000 users already and that's just incredible for a brand new app for first time," Summer says.

You can also get some social interaction by connecting with friends and seeing how there work out is doing.

Summer says he's proud to be representing our area with this type of technology.

"This is the proof point that we are building great stuff in Blacksburg," Summers says.

KinectHealth is only available on Windows 8, but should be available for i-Pads in the next few months.
