Becky Stafford still visit's her parents' home on Delaware street in Salem, only a few doors down from where police say Eric Mallory lives.

"Very quiet, I grew up here and it was never nothing like that, it is shocking," says Stafford.

Mallory was with the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department for two years says Chief Woody Henderson. Early this year he was placed on administrative leave, before putting in his letter of resignation on May 1st; which was accepted by the department.

The Chief says the resignation stems from felony charges against Mallory because of an inappropriate relationship with two minors from September of 2010 to March of this year.

"It was very concerned there was a lot going on up there that I was not aware of," says Stafford.

A search warrant says one of the victims, who is under the age of 16, told police Mallory took the victim to his home on Delaware street; where he asked the victim to perform sexual acts and performed sexual acts on the minor. The victim also says explicit images were shared between the two.

During a search police took several things, including two laptops, a desktop computer, and two cell phones. The story and allegations are shocking says Stafford.

"Knowing what was going on and the fact he was a volunteer fire fighter and I have five grandchildren that sometime visit, and I do find it concerning that is going on that close," says Stafford.

Mallory was first arrested on March 8th and charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor. On May 17th he was arrested again and charged with   possession of child pornography, sodomy, and aggravated sexual battery.

Salem Police say a grand injury indicted a volunteer Roanoke County firefighter on Friday, with multiple child pornography and underage sex-related charges.

According to Salem City spokesman Mike Stevens, officers arrested 31-year-old Eric Thomas Mallory at 11:00 a.m.  The grand jury indicted Mallory on 14 charges:

  • Possession of child pornography - 5 counts
  • Taking indecent liberties with a minor - 3 counts
  • Sodomy - 3 counts
  • Aggravates sexual battery - 2 counts
  • Object sexual penetration - 1 count

Stevens said Salem Police had previously arrested Mallory on March 8th, and charged him with taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Police were tipped off that Mallory was supposedly having an inappropriate relationship with a girl younger than 16-years-old at his home in the 900 block of Delaware Street.

As investigators looked into that tip, they also found a second victim, who is also younger than 16.

Mallory is being held without bond at the Roanoke County-Salem Jail.

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Jennifer Conley Sexton says Mallory was a volunteer firefighter with the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Company.  Sexton added that Mallory has been on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the charges.

Sexton says Mallory resigned earlier this week.

WSLS 10's Morgan Donnelly is working to gather additional information about the investigation, for WSLS starting at 5 p.m.
