State fines pest control company after man says home was ruined

9 On Your Side is keeping you updated on a pest-control problem we first told you about last week. See the story here.

Steve Bobbitt paid to have his Winterville home fogged for termites, bed bugs and everything in between, only to return, he says, to find most of his furniture, electronics, everything covered in chemicals.

"Chemical got on the bed, this part of the furniture and it left little streaks and spots where they had sprayed it," said Bobbitt.

Bobbitt had hired Cleggs Pest Control in Greenville to do the job but an investigation by the state Department of Agriculture showed the amount of chemicals used in Bobbitt's home was well over the recommended amount.

"There was so much chemical I could slide from one side of the room to another," said Bobbitt.

Cleggs of Greenville has been fined $1,500 but Bobbitt says the damage to family heirlooms far outweighs any number value.

The state inspects pest companies once a year including visiting homes recently done by the companies to make sure all the guidelines are being followed.  The department will investigate your complaint at no charge to you.

To do that, you can submit a complaint to his department by calling 1-919-733-6100
