Local Floyd Star Golfer following in Sister's footsteps

Posted: Updated:

The best in the world of Junior golf were out on the course this morning for the Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament at the Roanoke Country Club. One of those star golfers is Floyd County standout Amanda Hollandsworth.   The dual sport superstar took home a VHSL state title in basketball with the Lady Buffs earlier in the year and she says the pressure of performing on the court will help her when she hits the links.

She had to play from behind early in today's round. She double bogeyed on the first hole,  but Amanda quickly recovered--paring on both her 2nd and 3rd holes of the day. And as she told us before she teed off--on this course par is the goal.

Another thing that hasn't hurt is having a family history in the sport. Her sister Jessica played at the University of Maryland--and is now an assistant coach at JMU.   She knows the Robertson is no walk in the park.  And we will see where our own local star will stack against that global field on Sunday when the Robertson raps up.
