Sarasota homeless man killed as he crossed street

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

The Sarasota Police Department reports a fatal car crash that occurred on Friday at approximately 9:30 p.m. at S. Tamiami Tr (US 41) and Arlington St.   

Investigators say 54-year-old Mark F. Heggan, who is listed as homeless, was crossing S. Tamiami Tr. from Arlington St. when he was struck by a Toyota Tundra pickup truck. 

Sarasota Traffic Unit responded and interviewed three witnesses as well as the driver of the truck. Heggan was transported to the hospital via Bayflite where he was pronounced deceased.  Investigators say at this time there are no charges or citations for the driver of the truck. This crash is still under investigation.
