Teens participate in big day of service

ROANOKE, VA -

Saturday was the big day of serving in cities across the country, including here in Roanoke.

Nearly 200 teens and leaders who participated in the event got to relax at Green Memorial United Methodist Church today after a hard day of work.

They spent most of the morning and afternoon in the West End neighborhood picking up trash, painting and doing easy home repairs.

All together, they turned in 850 volunteer hours serving the community.

"It just sets a good precedent for the future generations, when the younger kids look at us and see all the volunteer work we do.  It just helps everyone realize how much work our community needs and that they can volunteer more," said Arizona Muray.

Participants represented a dozen different youth groups from Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
