Blacksburg man arrested for stabbing

(Blacksburg Police) -- Blacksburg Police, with assistance from Virginia Tech Police, responded to a call at the intersection of Draper Road and College Avenue in reference to a fight and possible stabbing.

A suspect description was quickly obtained through multiple witness statements at the scene. VTPD officers located the suspect on College Avenue, who immediately fled on foot. After giving chase, VTPD officers were able to detain the suspect without incident in the 200 block of Harding Avenue.

Kente (NMN) Gilkes, 31 year old resident of Blacksburg, has been charged with Malicious Wounding and Obstruction of Justice. Mr. GiIkes is being held without bond at the MCSO Jail. The victim was transported by Blacksburg Rescue initially to Lewis-Gale MRH for treatment of lacerations to the face and wrist.

The victim has been transferred to Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem for further treatment. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Their name is not being released.

 

The incident is continuing to be investigated.
