Chinese Transplant Carl Yuan Wins Scott Robertson

    He moved from his native China to the United States two years ago to work on bettering his golf game. All he's done since...is make it through US Open Sectional local at the age of 15, and winning his fair share on the junior circuit. despite all that, Carl was not considered a favorite in the star studded field at the Scott Robertson--but he proved to be the best out there in the Boys 15-18 division. Carl shot rounds of 72-66 and 68 for a three shot victory over the field, and the Scott Robertson title. He says he has worked hard on his game and that wins like this one reaffirm that he is doing the right things. Peter Kim of New Jersey was second at -4.  Zachary Bauchoe of nearby Forest, Virginia was tied for third at -2. Other locals in the mish included qualifier Clayton Forren of Rustburg at +1(Tied for 6th) along with Nick Brediger of Roanoke.

    The other division winners this weekend at Roanoke Country Club for the 30th annual tournament:

   Girls 15-18:    Gabriella Then  -8

   Girls 14 and under:  Lauren Kim    +5

   Boys 14 and under: Parker Gillam    -1
