'Click it or Ticket' seat belt campaign kicks off

Posted: Updated:

The number of people using seat belts in Virginia is almost 10% lower  than the national average.

That's why local law enforcement from across our area are joining the national *Click It or Ticket* seat belt campaign.

They kicked off the event Monday, stopping cars, and checking people for wearing seat belts, along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

"Seat belts save lives. Folks at the National Highway Safety Administration would tell you that the seat belt is the single most effective safety device that's ever been put in a car," Roanoke County Police Chief, Howard Hall says.

Police say traffic enforcement and check points will increase across the region..
