Storm Team 10's Patrick McKee remembers forecasting in Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

Storm Team 10 meteorologist Patrick McKee remembers his time forecasting in Oklahoma.

Patrick worked for a TV station in Lawton, Oklahoma from 2001 to 2005.

Lawton is southwest of Oklahoma City and Moore.

Moore took the brunt on Monday's huge tornado.

While Patrick said he never covered a tornado as devastating as the one that hit Moore, he said there were some scary moments.

"There were a couple of times when I was down on my knees getting ready to crawl under the desk because the storm was coming so close to the station," Patrick recalled.

He said he had to do that while still live on the air.

Patrick said, as an Oklahoman, you always had a plan on what you were going to do during a tornado.

"For the smaller ones, I knew at home I had a closet to get in to, in the interior, right smack in the middle of the building," Patrick said.

"I knew for the bigger ones I would just have to get out of the way because my house would not withstand winds that were that strong."
