CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Jim Dean has been named to the No. 2 leadership position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
    
The current dean of the university's Kenan-Flagler Business School was approved by the Board of Trustees on Thursday as the next executive vice chancellor and provost.
    
He succeeds Bruce Carney, who is returning to the faculty after four years as provost. Dean will oversee the professional schools and the College of Arts and Sciences.
    
Dean will be the second-in-command for interim Dartmouth College president Carol Folt, who succeeds Holden Thorp as chancellor this summer.
