2 dead in Sunday night crash on US-64

Posted: Updated:

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Wake County that killed two women Sunday night on U.S. Highway 64.

The accident happened at approximately 10 p.m. in Knightdale.

Troopers said Megan Williams, 22, of Raleigh, was driving a 2004 Mazda 6 westbound on U.S. 64 when it ran off the road, went through the median and into oncoming traffic. Officials believe the Mazda was traveling at approximately 80 miles per hour when Williams lost control.

The Mazda spun around into the path of an oncoming Escalade. The driver of the Escalade, Isaias Ramos Silva, 48, of Knightdale, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Brooke Byrnes, 25, of Norristown, PA, was in the Mazda with Williams. She died in the collision.

A third vehicle was also involved, but no injuries were reported.
