Grier Martin is back in the North Carolina House after a six-month absence.
House Speaker Thom Tillis swore in the Wake County Democrat on Monday night, replacing Rep. Deborah Ross of Raleigh, who resigned over the weekend to become general counsel for the Triangle Transit Authority.
Democrats in Ross' district last week nominated Martin to succeed Ross. Gov. Pat McCrory announced Monday he had appointed Martin.
The 44-year-old Martin served previously for eight years but didn't run in 2012 when redistricting lines put Martin and Ross in the same district. Martin is an attorney and officer in the Army reserve.
