Interstate 81 crash near Salem backs up traffic - WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va

UPDATE: Wreck on I-81 cleared, all lanes open

ROANOKE COUNTY -

UPDATE 10:11 a.m

The wreck has been cleared and all southbound lanes of I-81 are open again.


UPDATE 8:39 a.m.

According to VDOT's website drivers should expect major delays on I-81 southbound near mile marker 141.

The backup is due to a multi-vehicle accident.

VDOT estimates that traffic is backed up three miles.

UPDATE 8:24 a.m.

According to the Virginia State Police no one was injured in the accident.

Crews are still working to clear it.

An accident on Interstate 81 near Salem has closed two lanes and backed traffic up several miles.

According to Virginia 511 the accident happened around 7 a.m. on I-81 at mile marker 141 in Roanoke County.

The accident closed both lanes.

Traffic is being re-routed on to the right shoulder.

We have a crew on the scene and we'll continue to give updates.
