DURHAM, N.C. -

North Carolina basketball player P.J. Hairston has been charged with possession of marijuana and driving without a license, Durham Police officials said.

Hairston was stopped Wednesday night at a license check on Holloway Street in Durham. Two passengers -- Miykael Faulcon and Carlos Sanford -- were also charged with possession of marijuana.

Hairston, a 6-foot-5 guard from Greensboro, led the Tar Heels in scoring last season, at 14.6 points per game as a sophomore.

InsideCarolina.com reported that Hairston met with Coach Roy Williams Thursday morning and will be disciplined internally. He is not expected to miss any practices or games.

Hairston started Carolina's final 13 games and was a key to the Tar Heels' late-season turnaround.
