FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A Fayetteville mother is charged with hitting her 8-year-old son with a video game controller.

Teresa Marie Fowler, 33, of Jim Johnson Road in Fayetteville, is charged with misdemeanor child abuse, after she allegedly struck her 8-year-old son in the face with a video game controller.

He suffered a small laceration and a black eye when the incident occurred in March.

The allegation comes four years after Fowler was charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury after she hit him with a vacuum cleaner attachment. At the time, the child was left with a laceration requiring staples on the top of his head.

Fowler was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $2,000 unsecured bond.
