The 2013 Spring Jubilee was jostled around due to weather but even Mother Nature couldn't deny our local high schools from shining through and accomplishing the goal of winning the last game of the season.

On the last day of play we had three teams walk away state champs. Some storied programs and the others may be staring at a legacy of winning of their own.

There is no doubt Blacksburg soccer's 11 state titles coming in to the tournament put a bulls eye on their back…. But the Bruins responded sealing their 12th state title, and 11th for coach Shelley Blumenthal with a Garland Smith goal that sealed their 3-0 win over E.C. Glass.

Floyd County softball also grabbed the gold in what is best described as a defensive battle. They held on and took down Goochland to a tune of 4-1. With a team with only two seniors… so watch out for the young lady Buffalo's for years to come.

And the Cave Spring knights also ended their season with a win.  They are a team returning 7 starters next season and they swung the bat pretty well on Sunday--hanging 9 runs on Woodgrove as they beat the wolverines 9-3.

aAnd with the high school athletic year coming to an end… we will have to wait until next year to see if our local teams can defend their crowns at the 2014 VHSL spring jubilee.
