RALEIGH, N.C. -
Mothers Against Drunk Driving released number detailing alcohol-involved accidents with teens in North Carolina.

In 2012, teens aged 15-19 were involved in more than 33,000 traffic accidents. Of those, 924 involved alcohol.

400 teens were injured in those alcohol-related accidents. Five teenagers died.

"The wrecks that occur under the age of 21, a lot of times they are inexperienced drivers. There are higher rates of speed as well," said State Highway Trooper Marc Cerbone. " There are fatalities involved with those at any age, but with teens especially because of the lack of experience and driving ability."

The Highway Patrol advises parents to encourage their kids to stay put if they have been drinking and stay off the roads.
