Aggravated sexual battery Alford plea

Posted: Updated:

John Kearfott Boyd, Jr. of Radford entered an Alford plea and was found guilty of felony aggravated sexual battery in Montgomery Co. Circuit Court.

According to the Montgomery County Commonwealth's Attorney, Mary Pettitt, Boyd was sentenced to 10 years in prison, to register as a sex offender, and to have no contact with the victim.

Pettitt also says Boyd will be released and placed on probation after he serves five years and two months of jail time.

The victim met Boyd for the first time while visiting friends at the Dogwood Lodge in Pulaski County.

When she needed to go back home to Christiansburg, she realized her friends were too intoxicated and accepted Boyd's offer to drive her home.

After giving him money for gas, Boyd drove her from Pulaski to her Christiansburg apartment.

Once they made it to the parking lot of her apartment complex, she thanked him and started to get out of the truck.

Boyd then pulled her back into her seat by her shirt collar and sexually assaulted her.

Boyd was able to escape and the victim called police.

At first, Boyd told officials he did not have sex with the victim, but later said they had consensual sex.

Boyd has been in jail since the attack.

Eventually, the victim was able to get the door open and get out of the truck.
