Carolina Hurricanes working to keep Ft. Bragg ice rink open

Posted: Updated:
FORT BRAGG, N.C. -

The Carolina Hurricanes will work with Defending the Blue Line and the Cape Fear Youth Hockey Association to help keep the Cleland Ice Rink on Fort Bragg open and active.

Cleland Ice Rink primarily serves Fort Bragg military families and is the home of the CFYHA Jr. FireAntz. The government had targeted the rink for at least a temporary shutdown as part of a cost-cutting move.

The Hurricanes learned of the Cleland Ice Rink issue by Defending the Blue Line, a non-profit organization that helps subsidize hockey costs for military families. The team helped DTBL and CFYHA work out a way to keep the rink open, as well as made a $10,000 donation.

The CFYHA is a non-profit organization for individuals looking to learn to play or participate in travel hockey programs.

This Friday, Defending the Blue Line, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Cape Fear Youth Hockey Association, will be at Fort Bragg in celebration of saving the Cleland Ice Rink for countless kids and adult service members.
