ROANOKE, VA -

The Subway Commonwealth Games announced several new exciting things are being added this year.

The 24th annual event is put on by Virginia Amateur Sports.

This year there will be five sports with divisions for veterans --- track and field, bowling, shooting, 5K and archery. Veterans will be able to participate in three divisions general, veteran, and disabled veterans.

"<it will broaden the ways our veterans can get out and be physically fit and be active in the community. It will also be a good way for our veterans to network with one another and get out and show they've served the country and it's the least we can do to honor what they've done for us," said Matt Wade, the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program regional director.

There are nearly 900,000 veterans in Virginia. 101,000 veterans live in southwest Virginia.

They hope to expand veteran events in coming years.

2008 Olympic silver medalist and fencer Tim Morehouse will be this year's guest of the games.

Nine new events are also being added including Crossfit, a strong man competition and cornhole.

The games run from July 19-July 21st and bring an estimated economic impact of $3 million.
