Blacksburg "Summer Arts Festival" kicks off next week

BLACKSBURG, VA -

Blacksburg and Virginia Tech are working together to get people living in town excited about all the things going on there this summer.

The annual "Summer Arts Festival" kicks off next Friday with concerts and movies on Henderson Lawn.

That is along College Avenue where construction crews are working hard to finish a new promenade by the fall.

Virginia Tech and Downtown Blacksburg Inc. leaders are hopeful the Center for the Arts will become a large part of the festival in the future.

"It's about bringing the community downtown throughout the week and to try out some different things that they might not be able to do during the rest of the year when the students are here," said Laureen Blakemore, with Downtown Blacksburg Inc.
