CARY, N.C. -

The Carolina Railhawks used two extra time goals to defeat CD Chivas USA 3-1 Tuesday night.

With the win, the Railhawks earned a place in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarter Finals.

A crowd of 5,066 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary watched Colin Clarke's club go deeper than any other NASL club into the competition. The Railhawks will travel to face either Real Salt Lake of MLS or the Charleston Battery of USL Pro in the last eight on June 26.

Midfielder Cesar Elizondo put the RailHawks on top when he scored only two minutes into extra time. Brian Ackley added a third goal seven minutes later.

The RailHawks are coming off a victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Third Round. Carolina bids to become the first North American Soccer League team to capture the historic Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in its centennial year.
