Town of Bedford reversion and budget

Posted: Updated:
BEDFORD -

We're getting a better picture of some of the changes people in the City of Bedford will be seeing when it reverts back to a town.

People who currently live in the City of Bedford are going to be seeing a six cent drop in their real estate taxes for the upcoming year.  Some Bedford County residents are being annexed to the town will be seeing some changes as well.

Previously, these people paid 50 cents for every $100 of assessed real estate value, meaning if your house is assessed at $150,000, you would pay about $750 a year. As new members of the town, they will pay an extra 30 cents in taxes to the town, costing them about $450 extra dollars a year.

Two areas that may be seeing some of the biggest changes are the police department and school system.

The new budget and town status reversion go into effect July 1.
