Jazzercise boom leads to expansion in Christiansburg

Posted: Updated:
CHRISTIANSBURG -

Jazzercise is making a comeback.

The fitness craze that began in the late 60s is so popular in the New River Valley, a new space was needed. Here it is, Jazzercise will open at Market Place Shopping Center in Christiansburg.

Classes begin Monday but they'll celebrate the grand opening all weekend long with a tour of the center and free demonstrations Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Instructors previously taught at the Christiansburg Recreation Center and Blacksburg YMCA but will now work out at its own center owner Alisa Hewitt says they say they can meet the growing need. "We can move our classes to meet the needs of our customer base if we find that we need extra classes at a certain time of day we cab add that in very easily. It gives us a lot of flexibility," Hewitt said.

Jazzercise classes are 60 minutes long and said to burn 600 calories. You can find class times and more information here.
