Kinston man shot dead in car, police investigating

KINSTON, N.C. -

Police are investigating an overnight murder after a man was found shot to death in his car.

Detectives say it happened around 12:50 a.m. Friday on the 1800 block of Cedar Lane in Kinston.  That's where police found Robert Dennis Pridgen Jr., 30, dead behind the wheel of a 2005 Lexus.  Pridgen was shot multiple times in the upper body.

9 On Your Side talked with the people who live in the home directly in front of where Pridgen was found. They said they were woken up by the gunshots and didn't realize Pridgen was out front.

Commander Jennifer Canady did not return any of our numerous calls or voicemails for updates on the incident.

At Pridgen's home we tried to learn more about the victim. The family said they'd talk with us but never came back out of the home.

Pamela Freelend lives in the neighborhood where Pridgen was found and says it has shocked the quiet neighborhood.

"Since I've been in this neighborhood it's been quiet. The neighbors are elderly and we all watch out for each other. It's a shock that something this close to my neighborhood would happen like this," said Freelend.

The incident is still under investigation.  No arrests have been made.
