First Ever Croc-tail Crawl in Roanoke

DOWNTOWN ROANOKE -

You may have heard of a bar-crawl, but a community group in Roanoke is introducing a new spin to the term.

It's called a "croc-tail crawl." It is a themed event much like the traditional bar-crawl that is raising money for a good cause.

Director of the Roanoke Community Garden Association says its a fun, unique event that fund raises for the association.

"The Roanoke Community Garden Association promotes and educates the public about organic principles, diet and nutrition and provides free food to those who need it," Powell said.

Currently the association has four community gardens throughout Roanoke.

A visit to the Hurt Park Community garden shows that there is a multitude of flowers and crops being grown. From flowers to squash, there is a plot there for every preference.

Powell says some members are even growing crops outside of the gardens fences so that free food is available to those who need it.

The "croc-tail crawl" is Saturday, June 15th and includes four participating downtown locations including Thelma's, Firefly Fare, Billy's and The Quarter.

A $5 donation at any of the locations provides participants with "flair" for your favorite pair of croc shoes plus a raffle ticket to win gift cards from 30 local businesses that total more than a thousand dollars.
