Moore County thunderstorm recovery to continue into weekend

TAYLORTOWN, N.C. -

Power outages from Thursday's strong thunderstorms will continue in Moore County until at least Saturday or Sunday, according to Duke Energy.

Friday morning, more than 20 percent (8,000) of Duke Energy customers in Moore County were without power. By late afternoon there were still about 4,000 customers waiting for their electricity to be restored.

Duke Energy said power for some customers would not be restored until Saturday or Sunday for some customers.

For the crew at Superior tree service, there was barely been a free moment after the storm passed through.

"We were here from about 7 o'clock until about 10 o'clock at night," said Jason Kashmer.

He and his coworkers were right back at it Friday morning. They cleaned up ten trees at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

"You know Mother Nature, she's unstoppable sometimes," Kashmer said.

Blown over trees were a pretty common sight in Moore County on Friday. So many were blown over in Taylortown that some people spent the entire day without power.

"Well since it's a little cool, I'm raking a few leaves," explained Frances Foster.

She said that was the only thing she really could do without power. Fortunately, she has a friendly neighbor who helped her in a big way.

"She was kind enough to hook up a line for me so my freezer was able to stay on," Foster said.

She saw Duke Energy crews come through to check on problems, and she hoped that meant good news soon.

"Very soon. Very soon. I'm hoping," Foster said.
