ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

With every pass and kick, these kids are learning from the best soccer players around.  D.C. United's 23 and under team put on a clinic for about 90 kids in Roanoke.

"We do care about soccer in the area. We do want everybody to try and get to games, try and get to camps, try and get to training programs and ultimately we just wanted to show that we are more than just the first team on Saturday night," said Tom Torres.

Organizers brought professional soccer player Sainey Nyassi to town as a special treat. Lynchburg native Kyle Renfro who minds the goal for Virginia Tech was also on hand He currently plays keeper for the 23 and under team in the nation's capital during the Hokies off season.

"It's getting bigger, and what D.C. United is doing here in the surrounding communities is expanding the brand of dc united soccer," said Renfro.

While Renfro grew up in Lynchburg he tells me he actually developed his game right here in the Star City.

"Being so local it's awesome to give back the community, one that actually raised me and helped develop my talents," said Renfro.

It is also a place where many of these kids that took the field today hope they can kick off their careers

"It just gives them an idea to see what our older kids are doing from our academy and it's great looking at our academy players faces because you can see that they were once this age, and they were once looking up to people that were actually doing a clinic for them," said Torres.
