Jury selection continues in the second degree murder trial of George Zimmerman today. Attorneys are trying to seat six jurors and four alternates so that the trial can move forward.
Julie Hermann, the new athletic director at Rutgers University will begin her job today, despite controversy surrounding her appointment. Hermann was hired following the forced resignation of her predecessor, after the men's basketball coach was fired for physically and verbally abusing his players.
A traffic alert for today. A right lane will be closed on southbound Interstate 77 between mile marker 3.5 and mile marker 6.5 in Carroll County. Weather permitting, VDOT will work on a stabilization project daily from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. through Thursday.
Meanwhile, VDOT to ceremonially rename the part of I-81 from Bristol to Christiansburg as the "Congressman William Wampler Sr., Memorial Highway" this morning at the Virginia Welcome Center in Bristol. Signs will be placed at 14 locations northbound and southbound along 81 in memory of the late 9th district congressman.
Roanoke City Council will hold a resolution recognizing Deputy Fire Chief Ralph Tartaglia this afternoon. Tartaglia will retire June 28th after serving the area for more than 37 years.
A conference on obesity will be held at the Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg beginning at 9 this morning. There will there will be presentations on various topics related to obesity and research.
The Taubman Museum's annual "The Art of Golf" tournament begins at 10:00 today at Ballyhack Golf Club in Roanoke. Proceeds from the day-long tournament will benefit the museum's exhibition and education programs.
