Hendrick Struggles at Michigan in Teardown

Posted: Updated:

The Sprint Cup series rolled in to the Irish Hills of Michigan Sunday for 400 miles of 200-plus mile per hour action.  If you were to ask just about anybody in the garage area who the favorites were going in to this weekend they would have named just about any one of Rick Hendrick's four drivers.  But little did they know that all four teams luck would run out at different stages in the race.

Shortly after the green flag fell, Jeff Gordon spun and hit the wall trying to avoid Bobby Labonte--that would ruin the day for the 24.  A little while later Kasey Kahne would blow a right front tire while leading the race.  He hit the wall hard, and that number 5 Chevy would be out of contention. Dale Jr would also have a strong car, but the motor would prove to be the week point as he blew up while leading on lap 129.    And lastly 5-time,  the man with the golden horseshoe--surely he could close on race leader Greg Biffle. But as fate would have it the last remaining Hendrick threat would blow a tire with 3 to go,  and the Biff would coast to the win.

Here is a look at the points standings with Jimmie still out in front. He is 31 points in front of Carl Edwards.  Kevin Harvick is up a spot to 4th, 62 points back. Dale Jr falls to 7th place after he blew up, and 'smoke' rounds out your top 10, 121 points out of first place.
