Vice President Joe Biden will try to restart the gun control push with a White House event to discuss the administration's progress in combating gun violence this afternoon. It's the first time he or the president have held a public event on gun control since the Senate rejected expanded background checks in April.

U.S. and Cuban diplomats and postal representatives will begin two days of talks today about restarting direct mail service between the two. U.S. officials say the talks do not change the administration's policy on Cuba.

Chrysler is expected to file papers Tuesday explaining its refusal to recall 2.7 million older Jeep SUVs. The company publicly rejected the recall, saying the Jeeps are safe and the government is creating a new standard for gas tank strength.

The nation will remember a historic moment in space history today. It was 30 years ago today, astronaut Sally Ride became the country's first woman in space as she and four colleagues were launched on the Space Shuttle Challenger. Ride died in July of last year.

Blacksburg Town Council will have a work session this morning at 11:00. On the agenda, an update on the old Blacksburg Middle School site.

Franklin County Supervisors will have their regular meeting this afternoon at 1:30. Members will make a decision on the Burnt Chimney fire station renovation and have a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. on VDOT's 6 year plan for the county.
