Roanoke looks to develop other end of Reserve Avenue

ROANOKE -

With a major development project on South Jefferson Street now underway, Roanoke is hoping it will spawn more growth.

The city is looking to sell the old armory building at the corner of Franklin Road and Reserve Avenue.

The site has sat vacant since the Roanoke City School Board moved its offices out of the building around four years ago.

Now with much of the economic focus on the new Bridges development down the road, Roanoke City Economic Development Director Wayne Bowers said now is the right time for a business to get in on the ground floor.

"That project I think will be a great stimulus for this area and that's why I think it's a real find now at this location," Bowers said. "It sort of anchors the other end of Reserve Avenue."

Bowers said the city is seeking proposals to develop the area and they have an open mind about the site's possibilities.
