More promotion of the arts in the Star City is helping grow interest, but a new study shows there is still a long way to go.
The public art program conducted a sustainability study in the spring looking at what local arts organizations need to do to continue to thrive.
Roanoke Arts and Culture Coordinator Susan Jennings said it didn't paint a pretty picture.
"Our arts organizations continue to struggle financially," she said. "We just did a sustainability study and the gap between what they bring in and what they need to spend is pretty large."
Jennings said the focus now is on collaboration to draw in more people and give the arts greater exposure.
The full details of the sustainability study will be released this fall.
