Roanoke County Police release 911 kids video

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

The Roanoke County Police Department has released a new video aimed at teaching local kids about calling 911.

Dispatcher Beverly Orange took a big part in making the video a reality, and says it's something that's been a long time in the making.

"We all just have been talking about it for several years and finally got it together," Orange says. "We created it and then figured we'd put it out there."

The video, that features some local kids, teaches us all what happens when we make that call.  It also has some examples for kids about when it is important for them to dial the emergency numbers.

Even though this video was created for kids, Dispatcher Orange says there are lessons that adults can learn too when it comes to deciding what police department number to call.

She says after big storms the emergency 911 number often gets loaded down with calls.

"We can't get your power restored, so it's not important for us to know about that," says Orange.  She goes on to say that if there is no fire or immediate danger to call electric companies to let them know instead.
