An old school in our area is getting a bit of a makeover and it's all thanks to a local group of volunteers in Buena Vista who decided to step up to the plate.
Reverend Bryon LePere came up with the idea to "Renew the Blue" after walking through Parry McCluer Middle School for the first time and seeing the deterioration.
Now, hundreds of volunteers from Buena Vista Baptist Church, other churches, businesses and local organizations have committed to paint 19 rooms in the 90-year-old building.
"It's a great school, has great teachers has great kids, so the people are wonderful, but there are some obvious signs of wear in a lot of the classrooms, so while we can't double the budget or fix some of the big issue things we can work with paint, we can put paint on a wall," explained LePere.
LePere estimates this project is saving the school system upwards of $10,000.
