CARY, N.C. -

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison recommended that Wake schools create their own police department Tuesday at the school board meeting.

Harrison recommends Wake County follow the lead of the Charlotte and Moore County systems. New security measures were created in these counties after the Sandy Hook shootings.

Harrison also recommended updating hazard training, lockdown procedures and installing more surveillance cameras.
