ROANOKE, VA -

Good news for Roanoke's push to bring passenger rail back to the Star City.

On Wednesday, the Commonwealth Transportation Board approved its new six-year plan.

According to the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), included in the six-year plan is $3 million that Roanoke leaders had asked the state for to help pay for renovations to upgrade an old culvert.

The storm drain needs about $6 million in estimated work to make it strong enough to handle passenger rail passing over it.  The culvert is more than 100 years old.
