A New River Valley woman finds her calling after volunteering at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.
Shannon Porter started out volunteering at the shelter with "Friends of Animal Care and Control" for a few hours on Saturdays.
Now, volunteers says she's working almost seven days a week around the clock to make sure these animals get a fair shot at finding a family.
"I've always loved animals and when I was a little I wasn't allowed to have dogs, so now I guess I'm making up for it, I have 30 some dogs you know I get to come and play with and visit every day," Porter said.
"She knows every dog as an individual and that really helps us place the dogs in an appropriate home where we know they're probably going to stay forever," volunteer Marilyn Wheaton said.
Porter says her favorite part of working is seeing the animals go home with the right family.
