Vice President Joe Biden will address some of the country's mayors today at their annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayors will discuss public policy issues, including the economy, immigration, school safety and inner city violence during their four day conference.

Former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling is being re-sentenced in Houston, Texas after the justice department recommended reducing his 2006 sentence. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison for what was described as one of the largest corporate frauds in history.

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner will be in the Southside for two public events starting at 11 this morning. He'll tour and have a town hall at South Boston's ABB Inc. robotics plant and The Launch Place in Danville.

Service organization Epsilon Sigma Alpha is having a songwriters festival and fundraiser at Smith Mountain Lake starting today. Proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Today is the first day of summer and also the longest day of the year. It started at 1:04 a.m. Its beginning depends on when the sun reaches its farthest point north of the equator.

Blacksburg will celebrate the Summer Solstice with its annual festival starting today. It's from 5-10 p.m. tonight in downtown Blacksburg.
