Good news for those looking for your dream home, as well as those looking to sell, the local and national housing market is on the mend.

Local officials say home sales in the Roanoke Valley have jumped back to pre-recession levels, with home owners seeing their houses sell in just days, rather than sitting on the market for months.

Margaret Mefford decided to sell her Southwest Roanoke County home after hearing the market was picking up. After just four months, she's already sold it!

"I think more and more people probably in the last few months have really looked a lot. It's been really great," sold home, Margaret Mefford.

It's not just the Branderwood Subdivision seeing the good fortune in real estate.

The President of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors, Betty Kingery, says the numbers are in for May.

The Roanoke Region, broke a record for most homes sold since May of 2007, consistent with national trends.

Kingery says people seem to more confident in the economy and this is a major sign of growth for the housing market in our area.

The exact numbers show 443 homes were sold in May and 100 more than the same time last year.

"Activity has definitely picked up and so it's also good because of interest rates," Kingery says.
