TROUTVILLE, VA -

The foundation of Frank Moeller's dream is now in place.

For the last 20 years brewing has been his hobby.

But thanks to planning and what he considers the perfect building, it's now his future.

"It's exciting and exhausting," Moeller said. "It's really great to see how far we've come in four months."

Frank and his wife Debbie are getting ready to open Flying Mouse Brewery in Troutville, which will be Botetourt County's first brewery.

While the small town of Troutville might seem like a curious location for a brewery, Moeller said it has everything they're looking for including a fantastic view.

"That's the Trans-America Bike Trail right there at our entrance and the Appalachian Trail is right there, less than half of a mile up the road," said Moeller as he pointed at the trails. "The idea of trying to pull in (Appalachian Trail) hikers, pull in bicyclists, pull in people that are really thinking of outdoor family activity is really the center of what we're trying to do."

While the great outdoors will be emphasized at Flying Mouse, the Moeller's are also looking to give beer connoisseurs a unique experience inside.

"There's a lot breweries, a lot of one's we visited where you have the public space and then you have the brewing space and there's really a hard separation between the two," he said. "We're trying to see how far can we go to bring people into the brewery itself."

The basics are beginning to come together, although Moeller admits there is still plenty of work to do before its opening at the end of August.
